Two MX250s, No Downtime

We swapped two Meraki MX250 security appliances in this rack. The network was designed so we could complete the replacement without taking the site offline, and the job finished with zero downtime.

Most of the work was the unremarkable stuff that makes a cutover go well: checking the existing paths, moving one piece at a time, and confirming traffic before moving on. Nothing flashy. Just a design doing what it was supposed to do.

The Six-Month Closet Checkup

Six-month checkup at a 100,000-square-foot warehouse. The main IT closet is thrashed. The door was left open, trash had collected around the rack, and loose cables were everywhere.

No worries. We will clean up the room, trace and dress the cabling, check the fiber links and switches, and leave it ready for the next maintenance visit. This is the unglamorous side of managed IT work, but it matters for maintenance and uptime.

Lucky Number 13

About to leave the site after finishing this IDF at a Lucky Casino hotel. It supports 13 access points carrying guest Wi-Fi and the new Wi-Fi phones installed in every room.

The phones replace an aging Mitel system, so the same wireless infrastructure now supports guest access and room communications. Thirteen APs on the nose. Lucky number 13.

Method to the Madness

Every IDF in this 220,000-square-foot Lemon Valley warehouse is built this way. The switches sit toward the back of the rack while the patch panels and cabling stay up front.

We add cabling to warehouse IDFs several times a year, while switch replacements happen far less often. Keeping the patching accessible makes those additions easier, keeps the cabling secured, and lowers the chance of disrupting active connections. It may look dense from the side, but there is a method to the madness.
